Interior and the collectors is pleased to present COLLECTION n°7, a new group show selected as FOCUS Résonance by the 14th Lyon Biennale.
At the birth of Modern art, choice has been made to showcase artworks in a clean and white space, with uniform and cold lighting. Brian O’Doherty showed how contemporary art space has been designed. How would fit today’s paintings exhibited like a 19th century Salon ? What was the logic of perception of each canvas among so many of them all over the walls?
This set of works, without any framework, will communicate with form but no longer with background. The selected artists work with painting in a broad sense, in pure or mixed technique, as a surface of experimentation and interrogation. Some artists do not use painting as a material but the technique or the pictorial qualities refer to painting. No desire to represent a style or a genre, only the contemporary period of the gathered, avoiding any hierarchization. The artists exposed French and foreign are at the same time confirmed, emerging or still unrecognized in the art world. Some have already participated in our previous exhibitions, others come to enrich this fictional collection.
Beyond a historical reconstruction, twenty artists are invited to exhibit in a free interpretation of a 19th century painting’s salon with furniture which favor the exchange between the visitors. Sitting, observing, meeting and interacting are important actions. On the floor, Berber carpets replace the Persian carpets that could be found at that time in some salons. Less loaded and ornamented, it look like contemporary abstract paintings and resonate with the paintings. The space becomes an immersive and felted place, leaving the visitor drawing his own links between the works. This exhibition pursues one of our constant issue of inhabited space as exhibition space.

Interior and the collectors est heureux de présenter COLLECTION n°7, une nouvelle exposition collective sélectionnée en FOCUS Résonance par la 14e Biennale de Lyon.
Aux origines de l’art moderne, le choix a été fait de présenter des oeuvres dans un espace épuré, blanc, à l’éclairage uniforme et froid. Brian O’Doherty a démontré comment l’espace de l’art contemporain est devenu ainsi calibré. Comment fonctionneraient des peintures d’aujourd’hui avec un accrochage inspiré d’un salon du XIXème ? Quelle était alors la logique de perception de chaque toile dans une accumulation recouvrant des pans de murs entiers ?
Cet ensemble d’oeuvres, toutes dépourvues de cadre dialogue par la forme mais non plus par le fond. Les artistes présentés travaillent sur le médium peinture au sens large, en technique pure ou mixte, comme surface d’expérimentation et d’interrogation. Certains artistes n’utilisent pas la peinture comme matériau en soit mais s’en réfèrent par la technique utilisée et la qualité picturale de leurs oeuvres. Aucune volonté de représenter un style ou un genre de peinture dominant, seule la période contemporaine les réunie, évitant toute hiérarchisation. Les artistes exposés français et étrangers sont à la fois confirmés, émergeants ou encore méconnus dans le monde de l’art. Certains ont déjà participé à nos expositions précédentes, d’autres viennent enrichir cette collection fictive.

Moins chargés et ornementés, ils sont semblables à des peintures abstraites contemporaines et entrent en résonance avec elles. Ce projet s’inscrit dans une de nos problématiques constantes de l’espace habité comme espace d’exposition.
